Translate US Documents to Italian

If you are applying for ITALIAN DUAL CITIZENSHIP, all U.S. documents requiring an APOSTILLE must also be TRANSLATED TO ITALIAN.

For a list of documents that need to be translated, please visit our Italian Dual Citizenship Section and select the situation that applies to you.

Generally speaking, all birth, marriage and death certificates for all your family members (including your children under the age of 18 because they will acquire dual citizenship along with you) in a direct line between you and your Italian ancestor must bear an APOSTILLE and be TRANSLATED TO ITALIAN.

By default, all other documents do not fall into this category (i.e. they do not have to be translated to Italian), specifically:

  • Birth and death certificates for the spouses of your Italian ancestors
  • U.S. Certificate of Naturalization or any statement releasing information on the naturalization status of the interested party
  • All APOSTILLES
  • Your application and cover letter. Applications are available for download HERE (Select the situation that applies to you and then go through the list of the required documents)

We suggest that you contact the Italian Consulate of the State where you reside to learn which documents need an APOSTILLE and which documents have to be TRANSLATED TO ITALIAN.
