What's the difference between a tomato grown in one of the sunniest Italian orchards, the peninsula of Salento in the region of Apulia, and one grown out of season in a hothouse? From the look of it you would think none. But coming closer, the first has an intense scent and a genuine tomato flavor. The same is true for tomato sauces. From outside, through the glass, they all appear the same. But just open the jar of the 100% Tomato Sauce by Sapori del Salento and you'll just smell the difference. This is a delicious product, the result of the simple preparations that characterized the homemade preserves of our grandmothers.
There's nothing in the jar but pureed tomatoes-fresh, red, rich, intensely scented tomatoes-which evoke a countryside that coaxes its fruits from a harsh, scant, dry soil of limestone. For this reason its fruits are even more precious. Try this tomato sauce with fresh basil on spaghetti, or for any recipe that calls for tomatoes. If you like, try it uncooked on Tuscan country bread (or bread from Apulia), with a drop of olive oil, a bit of rosemary, and a few grains of coarse salt. It's an explosion of Mediterranean flavors, concentrated on a slice of bread.
