Amore, internationally recognized artist, and the National Park Service,
Statue of Liberty National Monument, will present LIFELINE - filo della
vita, at Ellis Island Immigration Museum from November 4th until March
15th, 2001. The Consul General of
Italy, Giorgio Radicati, will inaugurate the exhibition with a ribbon cutting
ceremony at 2 o'clock on Saturday, November 4th.
LIFELINE
is a visual novel set against the backdrop of Italian American immigration
in the 20th century. Using her family as a template, this exhibit will
traces six generations from southern Italy through resettlement in America,
and into the present. All families, Italian or otherwise, will identify
with the innate trials of immigrating to a foreign land. These visual
stories are set against the fabric of the general history of immigration
since one family exists not as a solitary entity but within the
sociological context of their times.
The exhibit will include ancestral objects and family writing dating
back to 1802. LIFELINE will feature sculptures, installations, photographic
panels and text and will fill six rooms of the Museum.
Although
the Curator of the Museum approached Amore for this exhibit, as part of the
National Park Service, Ellis Island has no funding for exhibitions. This
reality has brought Amore to fundraising in the private sector and the
creation of The Donors' Arch, "L'Arco della Memoria", a photographic
installation. The Arch is an integral aspect of the exhibit dedicated to
those individuals, families or companies who have contributed to this
exciting project. This tax- deductible donation is an opportunity to
publicly show support and be represented in a very personal way within this
historic context. Please forward
donations of $25.00 or more to the LIFELINE office to have you or your
family listed on the Arch.
LIFELINE
will be open to the two million visitors Ellis Island enjoys every
year. After the initial showing in
NYC the work is scheduled to travel to other venues in the United States
and Italy, and therefore will receive worldwide recognition for its
sponsors.
Checks
can be made out to the LIFELINE project/Carving Studio and sent to the
